A journey to third places in Sweden

This journey was o-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union

The concept of Third Places was introduced by American sociologist Ray Oldenburg in 1989: First place is home, second place is where you work and a third place is something like a “community living room”.

A so called Third Place could be any place in public where people can get together to communicate, learn or just be there – like the rooms and spaces swedish adult education institution Studiefrämjandet provides all over the country.

A group of people from Volkshochschulen (schools for adult education) in Germany visits Studiefrämjandet Uppsala in May 2019 (financed by Erasmus+ Programme wemobil 3) – here you can read about the results of the journey, watch interviews and get an impression of this journey to Third Places.

Enjoy!
